ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER WITH WORDS
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | At Ferris, we continue to focus on literacy as a foundation for student success. Teachers have worked collaboratively to analyze reading assessment data and identify ways to better support our developing and emerging readers. Through these conversations, we are deepening our understanding of students’ strengths and needs, allowing us to provide targeted instruction that helps all learners grow as confident readers and communicators. As we support literacy development, we also strive to honour students’ identities, experiences, and sense of self. Creating learning environments where students feel seen, valued, and connected helps foster engagement and a love of reading, while strengthening the relationships that are at the heart of learning.

| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | This focus on literacy as our school story goal has continued to encourage curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Through initiatives such as Mrs. Martens’(Teacher-Librarian) Extreme Reading Challenge students continue to be inspired to explore new ideas, discover new worlds, and strengthen their reading habits. By intentionally incorporating opportunities for students to see themselves reflected in texts and learning experiences, we can continue to support both literacy growth and student well-being. This approach reinforces our commitment to helping students develop the skills, confidence, and sense of belonging they need to thrive. |
