Literacy Connections
Ferris Elementary continues to prioritize literacy as a key focus for student learning and staff collaboration. Teachers are working together within grade groups to develop and implement shared literacy goals, with a strong emphasis on building connections through the Reading Power framework. This collaborative approach has afforded our teachers the opportunity to exchange ideas, align instructional practices, and support students in developing deeper comprehension and engagement with texts.
Our school community has also been actively promoting a love of reading through a variety of initiatives. Recently, students had the opportunity to participate in an engaging author visit from T.Z. Layton, which inspired many young readers and writers. In addition, Ferris Elementary is participating in the Million Book Challenge, encouraging students to read widely and regularly while celebrating reading as a community-wide effort.
At the staff level, literacy remains an ongoing professional focus. During each staff meeting, a teacher shares a practical literacy strategy connected to our school goals, helping to build collective capacity across the school. Staff also continue to analyze and discuss reading assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction. Together, these actions support a consistent and intentional approach to strengthening literacy learning for all students at Ferris Elementary.
