April/May 2021 - Earth Month and SEL

In honour of Earth Day 2021, Ferris staff and students set out to answer the question: How can Ferris show HEART for the Earth? Each class participated in their own way and contributed to an Earth Month Zoomby that was shared with the Ferris community in May. Some classes engaged in gardening and grounds greening while others collected data to support better waste diversion. Each student participated in their own way to show caring for our local and global envirionment. All along, connections were made to the core competecy of social responsibiliy. This event coincided with the planting of 10 new tulip trees in the back field that were funded through a grant provided by Tree Canada. CTV News aired a segment featuring the planting of these trees, which highlighted the sustainability efforts of Ferris over the years. Here is the link to the news segment:
