Empa-Tree (Noticing the ways we show Heart)

The Ferris “Empa-Tree” Project 2018-2019

Purpose:To ensure all students and staff at Ferris school understand and practice the values of H.E.A.R.T.

Goal:

That every student at Ferris will have a HEART displayed on the “Empa-Tree” bulletin board reflecting their understanding of HEART at Ferris.

Please continue to notice and have conversations with students showing H.E.A.R.T.  (During class time, in the halls or outside during free time)

*our goal is for every student to receive a HEART sometime throughout the school year

WE noticed you Showing HEART

1. Staff of Ferris School will notice students showing HEART

2. Staff will have conversation with student about how they saw the student showing HEART

3. Staff will fill out HEART (Name, Division, a comment about how student showed HEART)

4. Put HEART in box in EA Room (Room 19)

5. HEARTs will be recorded on Master List and placed on “Empa-Tree”

For those teachers that would like to have their classes engage in a HEART value directed activity here are some other options:

I am showing HEART

(HEARTs are available with the statement I showed HEART by…)

  1. Teacher led self reflection about “How you show HEART at Ferris”
  2. “Noticing…what I do well, what I know to work on….”

2. Students will fill out HEART (Name, Division, a comment about how student showed

    HEART)

Teacher or students may choose colours of HEARTs depending on lesson emphasis

3. Put HEARTs in box in EA Room (Room 19)

4. HEARTs will be recorded on Master List and placed on “Empa-Tree”

 I noticed YOUshowing HEART

(Use the HEARTs that you have – more are available as needed)

(This phase might be done more by intermediate students (in team meetings, with Buddy Classes, on playground etc) but could also be done by primary classes by noticing others within their own classroom)

1. Students of Ferris School will notice other students showing HEART

2. Students will fill out HEARTs (Name, Division, a comment about how student showed

HEART) Students may also sign their own name to reflect the person noticing HEART

3. Put HEARTs in box in EA Room (Room 19)

4. HEARTs will be recorded on Master List and placed on “Empa-Tree”

By students giving out the HEARTs – it might be thought that students will just be working together to give each other HEARTs. Although this might be true, it is still bringing to student’s attention what are expected behaviours and the true values of HEART.
