On February 17, Ferris staff engaged in professional learning with Connie Easton (Curriculum Coordinator for SEL). We reviewed the journey we have been on with SEL, learned new strategies for direct SEL instruction and plotted a course for where we are going in the future. A key metaphor discussed was the three-legged stool, which for SEL represents: Explicit SEL Instruction, Educator SEL and the Learning Context. All three need to be in place in order to have a positive impact with students.
