This Friday May 15, 2020 is a Professional Development Day—No School for Students
We want to let you know that during this time our staff will be engaged in professional development and will not be in contact with families—they will be back online Tuesday May 19th!
Monday May 18th-Victoria Day Holiday –No school for Staff or Students.
Student Learning at Home
Teachers continue to provide learning plans weekly and our hope is that all of our students are able to engage in activities and connect with our teachers about their learning. Many teachers are connecting in a variety of ways with students. Some students are mentioning, when their teachers ask why they haven’t been doing any of the school work, that they have “other work to do”. It is wonderful that students are extending their learning in a variety of ways. However, we suggest that school learning activities should continue to take precedence over other learning—just as we expect during the regular school time. We understand that each family has their own unqiue circumstances, which at times makes it difficult to get to the learning activities provided. We know you are trying your best. When our staff contact you to follow up, our purpose is to check whether more support is needed: such as language support, technology support, more staff contact etc. If you’re okay with what your children are doing…we’re okay with it too. As always—if you have concerns or questions about your child’s learning please contact the teacher. Our aim is to be helpful and supportive.
What’s next for School? We do not yet have news to report regarding the possibility of any return to school this school year. This will require intensive discussion among Ministry of Education officials, school trustees, the BC Teachers’ Federation, CUPE, and other education sector partners. You will be updated as soon as we receive further information.
Seismic Construction Update:
We are pleased to let you know that:
•the seismic crew has been able to speed up the work and are currently working hard at Ferris on the upgrade to make Ferris safer all of us
•we are excited that all of the student and staff washrooms will be upgraded to new—by September!
•we are getting new flooring throughout the school
•we are upgrading the library and the “learning lab” adjacent to it to provide a space for Applied Design, Skills and technologies projects
•our office area and the front of the school will have some upgrades---and if you’ve driven by the school you can see they are at work in the front of the school.
